Tips on saving money when sightseeing
As the saying goes “so little time, so much to do” certainly applies when you are sightseeing as a traveller. As an independent traveller, you want to make the best use of your time and get the right mix of socialising, sightseeing, and some rest in between all that activity.
Sightseeing doesn’t have to be a costly exercise. In fact, you can do a lot of sightseeing and save a lot of money whilst you are at it. Save Money Hound has come up with some tips on saving money when sightseeing.
Decide on your “have to see or else” sightseeing list
Firstly, decide on the top sights that you want to see. Categorise your list between the “have to see or else” category and the “would like to see but not critical” sights. If you are travelling with your better half, the family or a few friends, you will have to fight it out and come to an agreement on what is on your “have to see or else” list!
Try a free walking sightseeing tour
When you first arrive in a new city, try to look for a free sightseeing tour. Walking tours are usually fun and for a small donation you get some fantastic sightseeing on a three to four hour walking tour.
Walking is a great way to get the layout of a city very quickly. These sightseeing tours are usually given by experts who know their city well. Along the way you will find tips about what else to do in the city if you are still tossing up ideas on what you would like to see.
Joining a free sightseeing tour is also a great way to meet new friends and to get some exercise.
