It’s a fact that going on vacation can be an expensive affair. So how do you go about having a nice vacation and still may be able keep those expenses under control.

If you are sick of having your credit cards max out when you come home from vacation, Save Money Hound has great advice on saving money by having a budget vacation.

Here are some top tips from the Save Money Hound on how to have a budget vacation.
Choose budget accommodation

If you want to have a budget vacation, try to choose low cost accommodation. For some people, hostels are a great way of travelling.  They are a great place to meet people and you will find people from all walks of life staying at hostels.  If staying at hostels is not your style, try and find a good last minute deal at budget accommodation places.

Save money and use free resources

Hostels are a great place to find resources to plan your vacation.  On the night you arrive, browse around the hostel for resources. This might be in the way of maps and pamphlets that you can borrow. There are often tips left by other hostellers on things they enjoyed doing.

Staff at the hostel are usually more than happy to give you some suggestions on things to do,  and what transport to catch to get there. If your hostel has internet facilities, make the best use of your time and do a bit of trip planning before you head out for the day.

Do as the locals do

Don’t make a tourist of yourself. Go about the city as a local would do. Keep a beady eye on where the locals hang out. Enjoy the local parks, enjoy the local eateries, catch public transport like a local, and soak up the buzz of the unique qualities of the city you are visiting.

Sightseeing doesn’t necessarily have to be about just seeing the big sights of a city. It is just as fun to sit at a local café and watch the world go by. For a cup of coffee, enjoy what the locals do on a daily basis.

Hope you have an enjoyable budget vacation that won’t break the bank.
