Saving Gas on your car is no doubt a hot topic these days. Many families are feeling the squeeze to keep the family car running with the cost of gas on the rise along with other increases in operating and maintaining a car.
Save Money Hound has come up with a few ideas on how to help you save money on gas for the car.
A lot of cities these days have websites where you can check the price of gas. Check these websites and monitor gas prices before you go fill up your car.
Try and pick a gas station that is convenient to where you live or near your usual commuting routes. No point saving a few cents if you had to drive miles away to fill up your car.
Consider the way you use your car. Treat your car gently. Hard braking or stopping will reduce your car efficiency. There are many ways you can improve the fuel consumption of your car through the way you drive you car.
Consider how many times you use your car for separate car trips. If you plan in advance, you might be able to combine several errands in one car trip. If your errands are all within 5 kilometres of each other, for example, drop off the kids, pick up the groceries, and go to the bank, try and do all your errands in one car trip.
Discount vouchers are another good way of saving money on gas. You can find these on your weekly shopping dockets. Make sure you have these vouchers ready to use.
A lot of credit cards allow you to accumulate points and redeem them for vouchers of your choice including gas vouchers. If you are going to spend money anyway on groceries using your credit card, you may else accumulate points to collect gas vouchers.
Consider changing your car to a more fuel efficient type for your needs. If you are currently driving a big car, consider buying a smaller car that burns less gas.
Consider converting your car to running on gas. Investigate whether your local Government agency is providing any monetary assistance to help you convert your car to gas.
