In our high consumer lifestyle that we lead these days, it takes extra effort to reuse and recycle to save money around the home. By making a conscious effort to reuse and recycle, saving money at home can be quite effortless as long as we get into good habits till it becomes second nature.
Save Money Hound shows you how to save money at home. There are countless ways to save money at home without even stepping out your door.
Save money in the kitchen
- Recycle your food scraps and use them for compost.
- Wash out bottles and reuse to hold your spices, make jams etc.
- Make use of old soft drink containers. Cut the tops off your soft drink containers, turn them upside down, dig a hole and put them in your garden. When you water your garden, put some waters in these containers to allow the water to reach deeper levels in the ground for the roots of your plants.
- When washing dishes, fill up you sink to only the level you need. If you are only doing a small number of dishes, just fill up a bowl, and soap the dishes using the water in the bowl rather than fill the whole sink up.
Save money in the study
- Most of us get lots of white envelopes through our post box at home. Make use of old envelopes for scrap paper. Get a bulldog clip and make a notepad out of these old envelopes lying around your home.
- Before printing, consider the environment. Try to save important documents on the computer instead of printing everything.
Save money and recycle your clothes
- Instead of throwing away old clothes, cut your clothes into old rags. Use the rags for cleaning at home.
- If you have babies and kids and they have grown out of their clothes, see whether any neighbours or friends have kids that age, and see whether they can make use of it.
- Bought a new item of clothes which doesn’t fit quite right? See whether you can do a friendly swap with one of your friends.
- Visit op shops to find the best bargains, which will save you lots of money.
