Money makes the world go round and as that popular saying goes, unfortunately money doesn’t grow on trees.

The Save Money Hound will hunt down as many ways for you to save money as the smart hound can.

Maybe you are saving up for that something really special or maybe you just have lost our job or need to tighten your belts to pay that hefty mortgage. Whatever the reason motivating you to save money, it is a good idea to make your dollars stretch further.

We all want to be able to spend money on ourselves, our family and friends, whether it is things that we really need or really want badly. So at the end of the day, we sometimes have to find ways to save money in order to save up for what we really need or want.

So let’s get started to find ways to save money. Brainstorm and make a list of all the different ways that you can think of to save money. At this stage, just keep the ideas coming. Don’t spend too much time on thinking about whether or not you can actually save money in that area.

Once you have made your list, start to go through each item and either put it in the “I can save money” category or “I can’t do without” category. If there is potential for you to save money by foregoing that item or reducing your consumption of that item put it in the “I can save money” category.

The trick is to find how to save money where it least hurts. The litmus test is how much you value something and whether or not you could forego that item without too much grief. Think about how much it would hurt you to forego something. If you really can’t do without it, then put that item in the “I can’t do without” category.

A possible item on your brainstorm list might be doing the coffee thing every morning. If it comes to the crunch, could you do without buying a coffee in the morning? How badly do you need that caffeine fix in the morning? Could you really forego buying that coffee? Perhaps it is the whole experience of visiting your local coffee shop, chatting to your barista who knows your regular order and makes the best coffee on earth? Is this something you could reasonably forego? If it is, put it in the “I can save money” category.

Continue down your list. Other items on your list might include buying impulse items on your weekly grocery shop, buying things for the house that you don’t really need, dining out at expensive restaurants, buying takeaway when you can’t be bothered to cook, buying a new car, taking a holiday overseas, and the list goes on.

It takes around 21 days to change a habit, so get going on finding ways to save money. The sooner you get cracking, the sooner you will start to see results from your efforts at saving money.
